The day started very pleasantly. Cooler in the morning at 75 degrees. If it felt that cool all the time I think we could ride ten hours every day. The day ended blistering hot though. My thermometer read 135 degrees at about 5PM. At 60 miles or so we started climbing a hill I thought was similar to La Bahada. The wind was blowing at 20-25mph and the temperature had peaked. It was one of the most challenging hours so far. We persevered and made it to Mcklean. The motel proprietor took pity and gave me a ride to the local market, which had a grill, to bring us all back dinner. We're all glad that day is over.
