Day 12 Stroud, OK to Tulsa, OK

Day 12 Stroud, OK to Tulsa, OK 54.5 miles 1314ft climbing #NM2NY4LFSA

We were a little more casual about our departure time this morning. The restaurant accross the street was Mexican and we enjoyed a couple of grande margaritas with our burritos, enchiladas and fajitas last night. It was a very rare occasion that we imbibed in a restaurant. We enjoyed ourselves and slept until 7:30. On our way out of town, we stopped at the end of the block at Rock Cafe for breakfast. Apparently the owner was the inspiration for the Sally Carrera character from the movie cars. We didn't realize until leaving how popular the place is for motorcyclists. There were over a dozen bikes outside when we set sail. On the way out of town, I sensed a cyclist coming from behind and assumed it was Chandler or Lauren until I looked over and saw a young man on a BMX bike. We struck up a conversation and he rode with me for a few miles. He laughingly joked he would ride all the way to Tulsa with us but then admitted his mother would be very upset with him if he tried. Cameron is a 15 year old boy who finds solice on his bike. He told me a little about his mom and brother and how his only relief from his ADD came in the saddle. He was a smart and well mannered kid and I thought if he were in Santa Fe I would definitely be taking him on rides. He peeled off after four miles or so and we rode on for thirty miles or so and stopped for lunch in Sapulpa at The Patriot Grill. There we met the owner, Dan, with whom we shared great conversation and came to understand there are many things about which we are like minded. The gift of being alive for one thing, and being thankful for each day we can spend with those we love and care about. Little did we know what Dan had in mind after we left. When we got to Tulsa, we had phone messages from the shop that a local TV station had called asking for an interview. Kristin, at the front desk, was fantastically accommodating and let us use the staff laundry to wash our dirties, including jerseys we wore for the interview. At 8PM a reporter came to the lobby and we were told that a segment would air on the Sunday 5PM news about what we are doing. Thank you to Dan, Kristin, Camilla, Ashton, and KTUL for helping us raise awareness about Li-Fraumeni Syndrome. You could all be contributing to saving lives.
