Day 9 Elk City, OK to Weatherford, OK

Day 9 Elk City, OK to Weatherford, OK 45 miles, 1627ft climbing

Today started late and very windy. The wind moved between our 3 o'clock and 4 o'clock so at least it wasn't a headwind. Some days you just don't wake up feeling well after a big effort. We rode 160 miles in the past two days suffering extreme heat. Today I told the ladies I felt dull, flat (likely the product of a pizza dinner) and stupid. I'd deal with any combination of two but not all three. We decided to go as far as we could. Oddly, after thirty miles or so I began feeling better and the ladies began to fade. We thought about stopping in Clinton, OK but when we got there it felt like a sketchy town. My friend and former tour companion, Chris Bredenberg would remember what those towns feel like. They're best left as soon as possible. We pedaled another fifteen miles up the road to Weatherford and found a lovely little town with a great motel and swimming pool, plus a good restaurant next door as a bonus.

The ladies approaching.
