Day 3 Santa Rosa, NM to Tucumcari, NM #NM2NY4LFSA

Santa Rosa, NM to Tucumcari, NM 65.3 miles, 1542 ft climbing.

The day started pleasantly with a ride down Old 66 to the end of town. Then a left turn and an immediate climb. 400ft doesn't sound like that big a hill, but it was at 11 percent. Not terrible on a road bike, but with a 90 lb touring bike it takes a mountain triple granny gear to muster 4.5mph.

We stayed on route and stopped at the one gas station in the entire 60 miles for something cold to drink.

When we arrived in Tucumcari, the first thermometer we saw confirmed what the bike computers were telling us all afternoon. We were seeing temperatures between 112 and 115. As it turns out, it was a record setting day with a high temp in Tucumcari at 107. Yikes.

It looks like possible thundershowers today. That would be wet, but cooler. I think we'll take it.
